"Art
with a Heart": A Project with
Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas
The Arts for Healing Program,

|
|
This
project is a collaboration between Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas
(under the direction of the Arts for Healing Program, Gerrit Greve,
Coordinator), and local schools, as a community outreach program. In
this joint venture, students will be given prepared stretched canvasses
of various sizes and access to quality acrylic paints and brushes, as
well as instruction and guidance from their school art teachers and
visiting artist, Gerrit Greve. This will be included in the class curriculum
of the schools involved, and will also serve as a community involvement
project for the students and their school. A two month show as part
of the ongoing rotating artists' exhibits plus a formal reception at
Scripps Hospital Encinitas will be organized for each participating
school and so this would involve the parents and teachers of these students
as well. The students are being encouraged to "give with their
heart" to enhance the healing environment of their community hospital,
and thereby make a positive difference to the staff, patients, and visitors.
So
far, two schools have already committed themselves to this project,
Rancho Santa Fe School and Santa Fe Christian School. The subject of
these paintings will be HEARTS in keeping
with the project title, "Art with a Heart".
We will be looking to eventually involve many more schools in the area.
In the future we may also use other subject matter appropriate for the
hospital. The students will be donating the art completed under this
project to the hospital. Any money resulting from the sales of artwork
will go 100% to the Scripps Health Foundation.
